Dealing With Haters Online

If you play games online chances are good that you have run into a hater… or maybe you are the hater.  In either case, it should be known that there is a way in which you can respond without making yourself seem like the immature person that initiated this contact.

This video is for all of the gamers out there that play a legit game and get showered with haterade by the kids that get upset.

Favorite Maps Make Your Old Games Worth Keeping

After skipping out on Call of Duty Elite I was feeling upset that I didn’t have the new maps that Infinity Ward released to the Elite Community.  After thinking about how dumb I would feel to pay $50 for two maps that are being kept from the rest of the lowly gamers out there that don’t want to continue to bend to the will of Activision’s new subscription service – I started thinking about some of the better maps I have played (DLC or not).

Modern Warfare has a habit of releasing older maps that people enjoyed (or at least they assume people enjoyed).  Some of my favorite maps from old Modern Warfare games haven’t made it into MW2 or MW3 yet.  The beauty of these maps are that they are on games that you can buy used for much less money than MW3.  Even if you have to buy map packs in order to play some of these, it will still be cheaper (and more enjoyable) than some of the maps in the newer game(s).

My favorite map from any Modern Warfare game has to be Broadcast –

No matter the game mode, this was the best of inside/outside maps on COD4

While some maps give you the ability to do one type of strategy over another, Broadcast really allowed people to post up and snipe from either the TV station or the buildings outside.  You could also run around and gun people down as you flank from the many doors and corridors inside and outside.

Another map from COD4 is Backlot

Run and Gun with all sorts of places to double back!

In Backlot, you need to master the art of grenades and stabbing to accompany your aiming skills for which-ever gun you prefer.  I loved this map because it allowed me to approach every match with a new tweak to my style of play.  New players find new ways to play maps and it was always a breath of fresh air to play this map because of that.

Modern Warfare 2 had its fair share of decent maps as well.  One of my favorites was one of the biggest maps in any COD game – Derail.

Snipers and sprinters reign supreme! Get a AC-130 and it is game over.

It is one of the most fun and frustrating maps you will ever play.  If you get into a bad run, it is really difficult to rebound… however, if you get a strong killstreak and find your ‘groove’ you will probably end up with 25+ kills.  This can be said for any map really, but I really found this map to allow me to run the huge landscape and sprint-stab my way to victory by simply out-flanking the opponents.

The last map I miss is Storm

Another DLC Map that was well worth the money.

I truly enjoyed this map when I downloaded it from the Stimulus Package DLC on MW2.  It is a big map with rain (it is titled ‘Storm‘ for a reason) and that is one of those things that really adds to the mood of a map.  Fighting in tropical or arid places is nice, but it isn’t a true depressing/scary warzone without some rain and lightning.  Not to mention the sniper/assault friendly layout gives a bit of leeway to people that prefer one over the other.

This post will be updated with gameplay from these maps to accompany the pictures.

If you are annoyed with having to wait until March to play the new maps on MW3, just go back and play the older games and enjoy some ‘new’ old maps!

Gamer Etiquette and the Tragedy of Assumed Anonymity

In a world full of wonderful people that are pleasant and well-meaning there is always that one jerk that seems to poke his/her/its head out and ruin what might have been a great day.  The problem is that while this is a mere possibility in the everyday existence of humanity outside in what some people think of as the ‘real world’ it is a more than common occurrence in the world of online gaming.

Don't Go On A Rampage - Just Mute, Avoid and Report

The problem with this starts with the assumption that many people have once they go online – the assumption of anonymity.

You aren’t anonymous online and in the world of online gaming, you are surrounding yourself with a lot of socially maladjusted kids that have grown up on Sponge Bob and Crack (Mountain Dew).  So, when you start hearing that kid on your headset say something about your gamertag being gay or stupid just do the smart thing.  Mute, avoid and report the rugrat.

This also goes for any of the typical punks you come across – Mute, Avoid and Report. (Think Wash, Rinse, Repeat)

I will be posting some videos to show exactly how to do this as the week progresses.

Share your favorite interactions in our comments section!

My personal favorite so far was when I was teamed up with my friend Wonky Britches <—- Real Gamer Tag!!!!

and some guy’s (I am assuming a minority) trash talk was – “You’re just some white guys with good credit!!!!”

I am still trying to figure out if this was meant to offend us or simply imply that he admired our credit scores.  Either way, keep your language clean when you are online because all it takes to find out your name or other stuff is a simple google search of your gamertag.

Sniping a Jeep Jockey – Battlefield 3

When you play Battlefield 3 the first thing you will notice is that it is a fairly realistic game for the most part.  While it isn’t ARMA 2 – it is still a great game for some more ‘paced’ action than Call of Duty’s high octane, ADD/Arcade shooter modes.

The next thing most people notice is the presence of vehicles in Battlefield 3.  The vehicles are awesome and if you can master them you will be amazing at this game.  However, if you are driving a jeep or anything with open windows or ‘open air’ available to be shot through – you are a target.  Not only are you a target…

You are MY TARGET.  I love the recon class and DICE (the creator of Battlefield’s Online Mode) understand that snipers aren’t front lines warriors; they are laying low and taking sure shots that no one else really could.  In this case you see me as a recon class with an SV98 Sniper Rifle…

The video will walk you through how to snipe a jeep jockey and make what is difficult a little easier and more enjoyable… For snipers anyway.

The Best Time To Be A Noob = Quarter #1

For those that are new to gaming it is vital that you learn a few things about how the schedule of a hardcore gamer works.  This will allow you to understand much more in gaming than simply how to play a certain game, but when to play a certain game.

The first quarter of a new year is usually the most dead time of the year for any game to be released.  It is easily observed that most of the biggest titles to be released come some time in the months leading up to the celebration of commerce we commonly know as Christmas.  Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Arkham City…the list goes on.  However, there is a nice part about this for people that are casual gamers or maybe even what we (super-nerdy, ‘hardcore’ gamers) call Christmas Noobs (people that just got the game for Commerce Day and still don’t fully know some of the important factors of the game —– aka, NoobTubeTV’s Target Audience)

With the lacking amount of top-tier (popular) titles being released during the worst retail months of the year (January-April) you will have a lot of time to learn how to fine-tune your skills in games like Call of Duty.  Not to mention the fact that these are typically the worst weather months of the year as well and you may have some other reasons to hang out in the recliner, couch or sticky bean bag chair in your dorm room.

Just remember, it isn’t a crime to be a noob and like Will Hunting – it’s not your fault… it’s not your fault… it’s not your fault.

Attention Noobs - Its Not Your Fault

If you aren’t crying like Matt Damon right now, please keep your attention on NoobTubeTV.com for more updates on games and what we are referring to as Gamer Etiquette – the one thing lacking so much online that it is a pandemic that has infected 85% of online gamers.

Making It Through Tough Gaming Days – Lamentations of an Occasional Rage-Quitter

Admit it, you have done it before.

Rage quitters are everywhere online.  Sometimes they are sitting next to you playing split-screen Modern Warfare 3 or Madden and that can sometimes make for an awkward night around some Hot-N-Ready and Crazy Bread from Little Caeser’s.  It is ok to admit it – you know who you are.

Why do I bring this up?

As a teacher I have some fortunate scheduling during the year; and it is with that that I have had plenty of time to devote to this website and all the videos/updates/random issues.  In the past I used to rage quite a lot.  Now I am somewhat more patient (those of you that know me know that this is only slightly true) and haven’t rage quit nearly as much as I did in Modern Warfare 2 or Halo.  That was until the last couple of days anyway.

[rant]

Whether it was the fact that I have been gaming entirely too much (which you will rarely get me to admit) or some gamers just don’t understand how to WIN a match of Domination in Modern Warfare 3… or something else entirely.  By the way – to WIN at Domination you simply have to control at least two of three flag points on the map in order to gain points every few seconds and get those points to 200.  It doesn’t mean you run around and blindly get kills or camp away from the actual goals of the match. [/rant]

As you can tell, I am easily annoyed when it comes to losing – especially when it is because of incompetent people kids that shouldn’t have the game anyway. [/rant(really)]

Today I come to you a humbled gamer that rage quit three times in Modern Warfare 3 and once in Battlefield 3 in 24 hours.

I have made it through the darkness and found the light in the fact that I belong in Team Deathmatch where there is no teamwork and you are left to carry your team like Michael Jordan every match.  That is where the true rage quitters migrate to anyway.

There will be more videos in the coming weeks.  If you have suggestions please send us an email, join our forums or comment on here as well.

Quick Scoping and Digital Carnage Montage #4 – Music By Rammstein

Quick-Scoping Revisited

A few weeks ago we talked about the concept of quick-scoping and the whole idea behind the ‘great mystery’.  Today we have released some videos that cover exactly how to do it and also a bit of feedback on why it isn’t the best strategy to use if you want to win matches in Call of Duty.  The first video is a walkthrough of the concepts behind quick-scoping (including aim-assist) in Call of Duty.

The second video is a brief montage (without awesome music). It is followed by an explanation of how and why quick-scoping isn’t effective for much more than making a show. While montages are pretty awesome (we have our own here, and will continue to make them), there is also the goal of ‘winning’ when you play a game and that should supersede any sort of desire to look cool when your KDR is less than 1.00.

Quick-Scoping – So Easy A (Retarded) Caveman Can Do It

It has already gotten to a point with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 that people are starting to get fed up with quick-scoping.  Not that they weren’t already pre-pissed off about the idea of one of the most over-hyped and sensationalized playstyles in the Call of Duty world (quick-scoping has been around since the game’s inception).

For those of us that played Call of Duty 2 on the 360 (oh, the good ol’ days before leaderboards) sniping was the only real weapon to use.  Why?  Simply because it was one shot = one kill… and that was great, to a point.

Now we are experiencing something in Modern Warfare games especially annoying.  Quick-Scoping has taken the hearts and minds of silly teenagers all over the YouTube Universe.  While I will be the first to admit that I find these videos of people quick-scoping to be kind of entertaining; I must also digress that it isn’t difficult to do (with a little bit of practice and the right ‘perk’ settings).

Just Tell Me How To Do It!

Okay!  Fine, you want to know how to quick-scope?  You first have to make changes to your Custom Sniper Class.  This revolves around your ‘perks’ and will be focused on your weapon quickness rather than your character quickness.

Perk 1 = Sleight Of Hand – Reload faster + Faster weapon swapping

Perk 2 = Quickdraw – Faster aim down sights + Faster animation of using equipment and throwing grenade

Perk 3 = Marksman – ID target from range + Longer hold breath on scoped weapons

OR

Perk 3 = Steady Aim – Increased hip fire accuracy + Faster aim down sight while sprinting

The Action of Quick Scoping

If you are looking this up and reading the article, chances a re good that you have seen the basic fundamentals in action.  The real ‘trick’ to this silly strategy is using the AIM ASSIST.  MW3, by default has aim-assist turned on.  This means that if an enemy goes past your cross-hair it will automatically move (very slightly) towards that enemy.  This is where these ‘pro’ snipers get their not so impressive help.

3 Simple Steps

1 – See and ‘center’ the enemy on your screen

2 – Pull the left trigger quickly to get more zoomed in and trigger aim assist

3 – Shoot your weapon with the right trigger quickly BEFORE you have completely zoomed in. (This is the most important step, because it actually gives you that ability to catch the cross hairs directly on the enemy as aim-assist is also trying to help you.)

In The Future

Our next few videos are going to have a focus on some of the things that happen in Modern Warfare 3 and how to do them or avoid them at your own risk or peril.  For you noobs out there, this site and YouTube Channel have been dedicated to you from day one.  If you have questions, please comment on our entries here shoot us a tweet!  Always here to help and we know you are reading!  So, please do the manly thing and ask for some gaming direction.

Have Leaderboards Destroyed Gaming?

Remember when you played a game for a high score?  Remember playing a game for the sake of having fun?

It feels like years since people have talked and/or bragged about their single-player accomplishments in video games.

Now we are stuck in some sort of bastardized version of gaming that has been essentially raped by money driven tournaments that have caused some to become obsessed with ‘going pro’.  Is this the NBA?  Sorry, but it is far from the NBA and anyone that wants to be a ‘pro’ gamer is far from an athlete.

Does This Mean Anything?

It has become an obsession for people to achieve some sort of status on these leaderboards.  I have been hoping for years that there would be some sort of way to enjoy game without having someone in my match screaming about their KDR (Kill Death Ratio) or their Win/Loss Record.

Again, I will be the first to admit that I hate losing and get frustrated when I have someone on my team that doesn’t know what they are doing.  However, it is a different thing entirely for someone to put so much stock into their leaderboard rank that it supersedes everything else in life.

I have heard stories about marriages ending because of obsessions with Madden, World of Warcraft, Halo and Call of Duty.  I don’t think leaderboards are the only thing to blame for something to this extent but you can’t tell me that it isn’t there at all.

While youtube and facebook have brought in a new era of non-privacy, leaderboards have brought a certain competitive stupidity to gaming that I think might do more harm than good.

What do you think?
